Project Highlight: From traditional to transitional

Jenny Lyons of Dove Studio worked with the homeowner, Vanessa Mason, on the kitchen, main bath, and 5 other spaces in the house to transform the style from traditional and outdated into a clean transitional living space. Vanessa, a real estate agent and lover of interior design, shared with us her inspiration behind the renovation and her experience working with Dove Studio.

About the homeowner

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and am proud to say that I’m a first-generation American. After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Business I began successfully moving up the corporate ladder until my 18 months-old baby girl began calling our nanny mommy. This nearly broke my heart. I left my corporate career and created a new one that offered the flexibility I needed, not necessarily one that I worked less. I picked real estate because I truly believe that owning a home is the ultimate “America Dream”.

Throughout my 22 year career, I’ve realized that I’m an interior designer disguised as a realtor. I can’t walk into a house without envisioning a completely different floor plan. I can’t help it. Also, I’ve personally renovated three homes and designed and built two new homes. As a result, I stay with my buyers after their closing and help them reimagine their home. I have a list of contractors and vendors that I’ve personally used that help me with all my renovations.

I especially LOVE Jenny from Dove Studio. She recently helped me reimagine my kitchen and master bathroom and created a design so “out of the box” that it blew my mind! She also took all my ideas and worked with me to design my fireplace wall. Even my husband couldn’t believe the transformation. The house was stuck in the 90’ and he almost didn’t let me buy it because he just couldn’t see what I saw. Nobody else but Jenny could see the potential. I’m beyond thrilled and I owe it all to Jenny. I now partner with her and have referred her to all my clients. What a gem!

The renovation

By removing the peninsula in the kitchen and pushing back the right wall to create a hidden walk-in pantry, space opened up for a large island. There was also a half-wall leading into the living room that was removed to create an open flow between the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

The homeowner replaced the hardwood floorings throughout the house with natural pine. She also preserved the abundance of natural sunlight and painted the walls a bright white to lighten up the space.

The main bathroom went through a complete renovation as well. The custom inset vanities include mullion glass doors and light poplar cabinetry. The light wood, natural sunlight, and neutral tones create a feeling of peace and relaxation in this space.

The secondary bathrooms, living room, and office were renovated as well and received cabinetry by Dove Studio.
